Aksi Diam Hitam Kamisan: Solidaritas Korban Pelanggaran HAM
English Version

Delapan tahun reformasi bergulir, delapan tahun pula kasus pelanggaran HAM kian mengelam.

It has been eight years since “reformation’ launched. It has been also eight years many human rights abuse are almost forgotten. Regime comes and goes, but since then, when Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in power, there is justice available for the victims. SBY administration has failed to conduct any probe for all the human rights violations during these recent years. 1965 massacre, Talangsari killings, Tanjung Priok, July 27, 1996 operation, involuntary disappearance, Trisakti, Semanggi I & II and May 1998 Tragedy are out of the law investigation, including high profiled Munir case, the abominable assassination of Indonesia prominent human rights defender.  Munir was the last blow for he was the one who advocated afore-mentioned cases.

The prospect of human rights in Indonesia seems to be dark, because government covers it; government seems to protect the perpetrator of the abuse. Government conceals the truth and hides the one who should be responsible. Government takes many measures to let impunity reigns as far as government concerns the old regime. Government is unwilling to resolve the cases because they themselves are part of the perpetrators. SBY administration should have political will and gut to resolve the case as he has promised. Moreover, he has a lot of power to call the entire suspect of human rights abuse because most of them are under his command. Eight years, victims and families have struggled to articulate their expectation, their hope, and their demand to the government. But government tends to deny their obligation to victims.

aksi hitam kontrasThis grave situation has encouraged victims and families to conduct silent demonstration every Thursday, from 4pm to 5pm, in front of Presidential Palace, in black suit, black umbrellas with photos of their families which symbolized their mourning, their hopeless situation due to the rejection of government to take responsible of their case. They stand in silence to invite public and government’s concern to pay attention to their case. This picket is part of moral movement to campaign about humanity issues and human rights to public.

Victims and families have organized 8 pickets, since 18 January, 2007. Victims and families were participating in this picket. Some celebrities also took part, like Rieke “Oneng” Diah Pitaloka and Sony Tulung. This silent demonstration aims to attract many peoples who are concern to human rights issues in Indonesia.

aksi hitam kontrasVictim’s movement is inspired by movement launched by mothers in Argentina, in time of involuntary disappearance during military regime in Argentina. The movement which is called as “Mother of the Plaza De Mayo” has encouraged mothers of Indonesia to take same action. Every Thursday, the mothers of Plaza de Mayo stood in front of the Plaza to demand their disappeared sons.  Since then, “Plaza de Mayo” is becoming legendary movement around the world as a symbol of consistency and mothers’ struggle for their sons.
