Rights activist urge probe of Palu media attack

The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) wants the police to resolve the attack of several journalists in Palu, South Sulawesi.

“Kontras also urges the Central Sulawesi Police to involve the National Police Commission, the National Commission on Human Rights and the Press Council in probing the case,” Kontras activist Indria Fernida said on friday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Kontras sent a letter to the Central Sulawesi Police Chief Sr. Comr. Dewa Pasarna asking that officers investigate the case seriously to deter similar acts in the future, according to Indria.

A group called the Kaili Youth Forum (FPK) allegedly attacked the Alliance of Independent Journalists’ (AJI) office in Paluon Thursday.

Based on the records of AJI and Kontras, the recent attack has brought the number of violent incidents involving journalists in Central Sulawesi this year to four.
